for my project, i am drawing inspiration from the work of impressionist painters, such as van gogh and monet. i will attempt to recreate and reinvent their painting via digital photography with a modern twist. i plan to experiment with how to use photography to reference impressionist paintings by shooting with my 50mm f/1.4 lens out of focus or by using another method of manipulation. this way, the photograph will be more about the soft transitions and
gradations of color, like Impressionist work, rather than straight photography.

assignment 2: in plain sight
my
series documents milwaukee’s mitchell park horticultural conservatory, or more
commonly known as the domes. donald grieb designed the domes in the mid 1950’s
to house three artificial environments: the tropical dome, the desert dome, and
the show dome, each sized at 750,000 cubic feet. the species of plants in the
domes are supported by heating systems, cooling systems, watering tanks, misting
mechanisms, imported wildlife and insects, and five full-time horticulturists. for
this series, i chose to focus not on the plants but rather the artificial
elements humans implemented in creating these naturalistic spaces.

assignment 2 proposal
(i have revised my initial proposal.) for this second project, i will be focusing on the mitchell park horticultural conservatory, "the domes."
the original conservatory was built in 1898 but was demolished due to poor construction. a design competition was held for the new design. donald grieb won with his design for three glass domes that were 140 feet in diameter and 85 feet tall. it was completed in 1967. each dome presented its visitors with a different settings and are named accordingly: desert dome, tropical dome and floral show dome.
i normally photograph people, so this project will be a learning experience as i will have to learn to photograph plants and architecture. i will photograph digitally and present images of varying sizes. since there are three domes but all have different plant life interiors, i could present some sort of compare and contrast series.
